1. Modern approaches to language teaching. Presentation techniques and introductory activities. Practice activities.
The interactive seminar is devoted to various modern approaches such as PPP, TTT, TPR, CLIL, Guided Discovery and others. We are going to talk not about theory but how to use various lesson plan structures and thus make the most out of the material you have in the course book. Besides, special attention will be dedicated to the way we present vocabulary and grammar, highlight the main points. And we promise to surprise you with different creative introductory and practice activities that can motivate your learners and promote efficiency.
2. Creative dictations. Product and process writing.
Nowadays many learners of English feel insecure when asked to write a text. Spelling has always been one of the most difficult areas if we speak about mastering a foreign language, especially English. Students have to remember words to spell them properly; they can't explain spelling logically or check tracing them to some other words. So the only way out seems to reproduce words hundreds of times in hope to remember them. Most teachers' solution will also be writing dictations or just copying words at home. A dictation can really work under the condition that it doesn't turn into a boring every day procedure but provides variety, stimulates students' motivation. So the aim of our seminar is to present and practice the most creative types of dictations, classify them and provide practical tips concerning dictations for teachers to follow. And the next step in writing is creating a text. Here we will speak about two main approaches to writing – process and product writing – and how to use these approaches at the lessons.
